Navigating Leadership Tensions in Real Time

Each month, we’ll explore the tensions that sit at the heart of leadership and human behavior—the moments where clients feel stretched, uncertain, or caught between competing demands.

It’s not Overthinking. It’s Pattern Recognition.

By Lisa J. Kuruvilla, ICF MCC, CMC, CEC

Insight:
Clients who “overthink” are often seeing more than they can yet articulate. Their mind is connecting dots—but hasn’t organized them into insight.

Coaching helps bring language to awareness.

Sample Question:
What patterns are you noticing that haven’t yet been fully expressed?

Application:
Invite the client to slow down and describe—not conclude. Patterns often emerge in the telling.

Speaker Spotlight

Laura Berman Fortgang, MCC

Laura calls herself an OG coach since she has over thirty years of experience, had the first book by a professional coach published in the US and the UK and helped to found the International Coaching Federation. She was also the first coach on the Oprah Winfrey Show!

Her life’s work supports other people to find theirs and join the A-List of life. No, she doesn't mean becoming a celebrity, but does mean not settling for anything less than the best you want to reach for.
